you're so overrated #2 - lime crime lipsticks

Hey guys!

Last year, I started a series of which I would write about products hyped up within the beauty world that really fell short for me. I was really happy with the way it went over with you guys, you really seemed to appreciate the honesty without ever being rude or leaving innappropriate comments. I'm really hoping that doesn't change with what I'm about to write about.

I'm going to start with a massive disclaimer:

This is solely based on MY OWN experience of the products shown. This experience is in no way a reflection of the way I feel about Lime Crime or it's founder, but rather how they have individually performed on my lips. Mwah.

Okay, so now that's out of the way, let's just get a tiny weeny bit personal. I don't like Lime Crime. I really really don't. These were brought before I had done research on the company and knew about its founders questionnable morals and ethics. However, like I said, this post is honestly and completely all about the way I feel about these lipsticks - and I felt this way BEFORE hearing Lime Crime's history. I understand could potentially be a controversial post for some, and I won't be making this a rant about the company. If you are unsure of what I am speaking about, you can google Lime Crimes history and see there for yourself.

So stop right here if you're not interested in reading about my negative experience with these lipsticks - promise I won't hate you! But, if you are someone who is thinking about making the purchase, and is still unsure/if you're just interested in hearing my thoughts, please read on!

From l-r; Coquette, Babette & Centrifuschia

Now to the lipsticks themselves. I have never ever before been so disappointed by lipsticks in my life. I own a lot of lipsticks, let's be real, and I can honestly say that these come at the bottom of the pack. I want to say that the advertising on these lipsticks are completely off the track - of the three that I own, NONE have matched up to the swatches or colour on the lips shown on the Lime Crime website. I understand that some editing is maybe necessary, even a tinsy bit of photoshop. But come on, LC seriously? I was most disappointed with Babette - it looked like this gorgeous pastel-ly nude-y orange/coral, and in reality it is NOTHING like the advertisement that I originally brought it for. And also Coquette! I swear all the Youtubers get the good versions and the rest of us get the duds.

First of all, the bullet packaging. While they look cute, quirky and different, you can tell by holding them that they feel cheap and tacky. They're big as well - thick and clunky compared to MAC. Not only that, they don't seem to do their job by holding the lipstick in place. Both Coquette and Babette have managed to both slant and run up the side of bullet. They also don't seem to be holding in very well to their packaging (as you can see in the photo below) and I'm guessing if I actually used them that it would have completely torn off by now. Let me also be clear that the damage shown in the picture below is with pretty minimal useage.

Second of all, they're supposedly super creamy but manage to show up every single crack and dryness on my lip without the lasting power of a matte lipstick. They wear off about an hour after application, and considering these are considered high end lipsticks with a pretty decent price tag, I expect better. They also smell like a rip off of MAC lipsticks, sort of like an off vanilla.

Thirdly, they sweat like no other lipstick I own. These have been kept upright and out of the heat, and yet they all have beads of sweat on them, especially Centrifushchia. I did try to get a clear photo, but unfortunately it wasn't working out for me. If you look hard in the first picture, you are able to see it. To me, again, for a supposedly higher end lipstick, I expect SO much better. I feel like these are almost going off as we speak because of how much they sweat and stew in these below grade plastic casing.

So there you have it - regardless of what you think of the company, its pretty obvious these lipsticks are not worth the money. If you've managed to make them work for you, let me know down below! Otherwise, I'm pretty certain these will be given away or thrown out soon..

review & swatches: rimmel london moisture renew lipsticks

Hey guys!

Todays post is all about these gorgeous new additions to the Rimmel London line. I was sent a selection of these to try out and I am loving them so much that I decided to write this to tell you guys about them! Especially given that these are drugstore releases, so they are easy on the wallet! I think these are the new re-formulated version of the Moisture Renew line with all new colours and packaging, but I'm not 100% sure (#badbeautyblogger). In any case, I have been playing around with these for a week now and I have been loving everything about them!

These lipsticks are so beautiful to wear - so beautifully creamy and opaque. They glide on super easy, and are are pretty much full pigmentation with one swipe. The fact that they are 'moisture renew' lipsticks means that they aren't drying on your lips, and they don't catch on any dry patches either. While I'm not sure if they actually moisturise my lips any more than a normal lip balm, they don't take away any hydration either.

Heres an overview of the lipsticks I own!

Ringa Ringa Roses

A beautifully light pink with shimmers throughout.

Vintage Pink

A gorgeous everyday mauve, with a hint of purple undertones

As You Want Victoria

A muted fuschia pink shade, that's still incredibly wearable!

Diva Red

A deeper wine red shade.

In Love With Ginger

My favourite of the bunch - an a very warm red with a strong orange undertone. The most perfect summer colour, I cannot wait to wear it with bronzed skin.

Swatches (l-r): Ringa Ringa Roses, Vintage Pink, As You Want Victoria, Diva Red & In Love With Ginger

Can you see how gorgeous these colours are? Just absolutely beautiful, and they all swatch like butter and stay incredibly creamy. I should also mention that the staying power of these, especially the darker shades, is amazing. When swatching these, I wiped my arms with a makeup remover wipe and then soap and the colour still remained faintly. I definitely recommend trying these out if you are after a lipstick that is easy to apply and wear for everyday, and that isn't going dry or crack your lips.

You can find these here at Priceline for $13.95AU!

Have you tried these lipsticks? Let me know your favourite shade down below!

lip product addict tag

Hey guys!

Today post will be the Lip Product Addict Tag - I have wanted ti do this tag since I saw Shaaanxo do it on her Youtube channel, and ever so kind Serafina from Serafina's Stylish Sundays tagged me in her post, and I have finally got around to doing it!

Now, apart from foundation, the one other make up product that I am guilty of hoarding is lip products - I love me some lipstick, lip balm, lip gloss, lip tar etc etc. I am a particular fan of pinks and nudes, but really I'll try anything once. This tag actually had to make me think on some questions, I have so many that I love and adore that its super  hard to narrow it down at times. But, I did for the blog post (not the vine), and here are my answers!

1. Favourite Lip Balm/Treatment

If you couldn't tell from the picture, of course I had to choose two. These are my teo favourites for two seperate uses. My Lucas Paw Paw Ointment (left) is 100% my saviour for if my lips are beyond repair from any other lip balm - I'm talking cracks, sores, dryness etc, you name it, this will help soothe it. And, of course, my Chapstick in the Cake Batter flavour takes the cake (#seewhatididthere) of all my lip balms. Chapstick is hands down one of my favourite brands for lip balms, and this flavour is just the bomb.com, and I'll forever be using it.

2. Best Eye Catching Red

I don't wear reds regularly, and as a result, I don't actually own many. But of all of them, MAC's Ruby Woo is definitely my favourite. It's blue based, so it doesn't make my teeth look orange, and its a gorgoues mid tone red that isn't too dark, or too light, so it goes with a lot of looks. I should also mention that it's a matte formula, so this baby does not budge!

3. Favourite Luxury/Drugstore Lipstick

It should come as no surprise that the YSL Rouge Volupte in #1 is my favourite luxury lipstick, and quite possibly my favourite lipstick of all time. No lipstick will ever beat this formula, and the colour is this beautiful nude baby pink - right up my alley! My favourite drugstore lipstick goes to the Maybelline Colour Whisper in Lust for Blush, my most used lipstick of all. Such an easy everyday pink, and also a super close dupe for MAC Creme Cup as well.

4. Favourite MAC Lipstick

I just want to point out that this is like asking a mother to choose her favourite child - there is just no way. I love all my MAC babies, but of all of them, MAC's Syrup is probably my most worn. Its just an easy mauve pink that is my MLBB easy.

5. Most Disappointing Lipstick

Leaving my feelings of the company out of this, I was just really disappointed with this lipstick. And not only this shade, but this is probably the one that really got me. I just expected so much more out of it because I heard so many great things about it. The colour is sort of coral, creamyish and smells like an off MAC lipstick. Not only that, but for some reason my lipstick looks like I've thrown it against walls. It sinks into lines on my lips and emphasises any minor dray patches as well. Just really unhappy with it honestly, especially when I'd heard some of my favourite beauty guru's rave about it.

6. Lip Liner - Yay or Nay?

Recently, I've been really into lip liner! I haven't ventured into different colours though, sticking eith nudes and pinks. My favourites are these two pictured: NYX Mauve Lip Liner (bottom) and Chi Chi Lip Liner in It Girl (top). I have especially been loving the NYX one to line my lips almost everyday - its super smooth and creamy, so easy to apply! Plus because of the colour, I can overdraw my lips slightly and it looks completely natural.

7. Best Gloss

I may have only owned this lip gloss for two weeks, but I already know that this is holy grail, I'll-forever-repurchase status. Its Whitening Lightning's Lip Gloss in Butter Cream. Its a gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous baby pink, and it is just perfect for every single look in the world of looks. I've been pairing it with the NYX liner I mentioned above nearly every single day, and its most perfect everyday lip colour. Just in love with this lipgloss, and I don't think that will ever change.

8. Something Extra

I just wanted to give a quick shoutout to the Too Faced Lip Injection Colour Bombs (I have a full review here), because they are amazing. They give a gorgeous wash of colour while similtaneously plumping your lips, which I love!

Thanks for reading guys - I love tags, because I feel like its an easier way for you guys to get to know me. I think thats pretty cool :)

I tag:

Claire from Beauty With Claire
Dani from LaceandLovexo
Kirsty from Lipstick Addict
Tarlie from T&K

And anyone else who wants to do this tag! Leave your blog down below if you do, so I can check it out!

top five thursday: autumn/fall lipstick

Hey guys!

Todays quick edition of Top Five Thursday will be all about the lip colours that I will be turning too in Autumn (or Fall if you're on the other side of the world). The weather has finally started to cool down now, so it is finally appropriate to stop wearing all my peaches and corals, and wander into the wine, berries and purples territory.

I love these colours, especially as they are bold without being too bold. Because of the weather really cooling down, these are so appropriate for the weather! Autumn and Winter scream for more indulgent colours, and although I usually shy away from colours like this, I am feeling the need to venture out of my comfort zome and bring out my inner vamp!

Read on to see what colours I chose!

Lipsticks pictured (l-r): MAC's Plumful, Sportsgirl's Love Bite, MAC's Rebel, Revlon Colourburst Matte Balm in Shameless, Revlon Colourburst Matte Balm in Sultry

1. MAC Lipstick in Plumful
I spoke about this lipstick in here in My Top MAC Lipsticks, so if you would like to read a more indepth review on the lipstick, click the link. Basically, this is a perfect everyday Autumn Lip colour! It is a darker version of MAC's Syrup, which is my perfect MLBB. The colour is a darker pink with a tinge of purple. The fact that it is a Lustre finish as well makes it super easy to wear, as it it moisturising and sheer on the lips. Unfortunately. that means it doesn't last as long as some others, but its not a huge deal to whip out a mirror and reapply. This retails for $36AU at either a MAC counter or their online store.

2. Sportsgirl Lipstick in Love Bite
This is a more recent purchase of mine, but I already love it! It is a perfect deeper raspberry, and it literally goes with everything. Another great thing about this lipstick is that once it actually wears off, it stains your lips the exact same colour! I would say its a satin finish on the lips, and definitely opaque! Aaah, its so beautiful and so inexpensive when you consider the quality of the product. These are available in Australia at any Sportsgirl store, or internationally online, for $9.95AU.

3. MAC's Lipstick in Rebel
Again, I spoke about this here if you would like to read a more indepth review on it. This is a cult favourite from MAC, and it is so so perfect. I always turn to this when I want a bold lip that isn't too bold. Its a gorgeous deeper purple berry. Its a satin finish, so it doesn't look flat or unnatural on your lips. This is a perfect colour honestly, and if you are someone who loves berries, this is a colour you need in your life. It retails for $36AU at any MAC counter or their online store.

4. Revlon Colourburst Matte Balm in Shameless
I have to say, I was surprised by this colour! I wasn't expecting to love it at all, thinking that it was way too dark and vampy. I was totally and completely wrong, and so happy that I was. I assumed it wouldn't suit my colouring, as I usually steer clear of these colours, but honestly with a purple or neutral eye, this just amps up the look and adds that extra somethin' somethin'. I have a review on all of the Revlon Matte Balms here if you want to know my thoughts on them. These retail for about $17.95 in Priceline, and any other chemist or drugstore that sells Revlon.

5. Revlon Colourburst Matte Balm in Sultry
Again, this was a darkhorse for me! Swatching it, I assumed it wouldn't suit me at all. I noticed once I put it on my lips, the colour changes compared to the swatch. When I swatched it, the colour looks like a darker brown pink colour. But on the lips, this looks so gorgeous, almost a little burgundy. This goes perfect with nearly every look I create, especially with my Lorac Pro Palette! I have been wearing this nearly every day since I got it, and I adore it! Again, these retail for $17.95AU in Priceline, or any other drugstore that sells Revlon.

Swatches (l-r): MAC's Plumful, Sportsgirls Love Bite, MAC's Rebel, Revlon Colourburst Matte Balm in Shameless, Revlon Colourburst Matte Balm in Sultry

That's all for today's post! What colours will you be turning to this Autumn?

Until next time...

top five thursday: pink lipsticks

Hey guys!

Guess what day it is? Its Top Five Thursday (hurray!). This is coming up to be my favourite part of the week, I love going through all my collection and really picking out the standouts of every beauty category I can think of!

If you follow me on Instagram, or really if you have seen either of the eyeshadow tutorial posts that I have made on my blog (click here and here), you will know that my colour of choice on my lips is pink. I love pink, it's my favourite colour, and I own so many pink lipsticks, lipglosses and balms that I have seriously lost count. I just think that the colour is so easy to pull off, because our lips are naturally pink or red.

Because I usually wear lipstick over lip gloss (long hair problems), I decided to make this just a pink lipstick post. I went through ALL my pink lipsticks, and picked out the ones that I covet and wear on a regular basis. This was a difficult decision, there are so many that I love and use so often, but I really had to narrow it down and pick the ones that I would reach for the most frequently. Read on to see which ones made the cut!

Lipsticks pictured (l-r) - MAC Lipstick in Syrup, YSL Rouge Volupte Lipstick in  #1 Nude Beige, MAC Lipstick in Lovelorn, Maybelline Color Whisper in Lust for Blush, Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Native

MAC Cosmetics Lustre Lipstick in Syrup: This is the best MLBB I have ever found! I would describe it as a muted mauve pink, and it is the most perfect everyday lipstick I could ever have hoped for. It goes with any look I create, whether it be natural and dramatic, but I just really love it to wear on the days where I want my lips to look natural, but healthy with a bit of shine. As it is a Lustre finish, it is super moisturising, but its staying power is a little lacking. I did do a post all about my favourite MAC lipsticks in which this was featured. I'll link it here if you want to take a look :) . This does retail for $36AU from MAC Counters, but I really think it's worth it because I wear it so often.

YSL Rouge Volupte Lipstick in #1 Nude Beige: This is my all time favourite lipstick, formula and packaging. Aaah, this lipstick is so beautiful, I can't even deal. It's a gorgeous soft pink/nude colour, and I realise how expensive these lipsticks are, but you have my word they are 100% worth every single dollar. This lipstick is so creamy and opaque. You could have cracked and dry lips, use no scrub or balm before putting this on, and I swear you wouldn't even be able to tell. In all seriousness, this lipstick is a luxury. The packaging is amazing (it's YSL, come on), the product is amazing.. But the price isn't so amazing. These retail for $55AU from select Myer or David Jones stores. But if you wanted to try it out, just go swatch it in store and I have no doubt that you will fall in love with the magic that is YSL.

MAC Cosmetics Lustre Lipstick in Lovelorn: Oh yes, another MAC lipstick. Just as amazing as the first. This is a beautiful, cool toned pink that isn't a Barbie pink or baby pink. It really is in between, and it is perfect for someone who is looking for a wearable everyday pink that isn't an MLBB or too bright. I tend to wear this on the days when I do less with my face, because this really amps up my look and makes my overall look more awake and radiant. It is also another lustre finish, so it isn't going to dry your lips out in the slightest, but you will have to touch it up throughout the day. This retails for $36, but again, so worth it.

Maybelline Color Whisper in Lust for Blush: My most worn lipstick, and also the only one I actually have a back up to (it's almost finished). This is another great everyday pink, that is similar to MAC's Crème Cup (but better if you ask me), and best of all it will not break your budget. This has sort of a balm like feel to it, but I don't notice it actually moisturising my lips, but in saying that, it doesn't dry them out either. I actually really like the whole Maybelline Color Whisper range, Australia didn't get all the colours but that didn't stop me from collecting all the ones I could! This just happens to be my favourite of the lot, its just really wearable and easy for everyday. These retail for $14.95AU.

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Native: Okay, I want all of these and I want them now. This lipstick is amazing, it's very creamy and it just glides on to your lips. The colour is a perfect pink nude, but I would call it an almost semi-matte finish because on me, it dries really quickly and I do get a long wear out of it. But, it doesn't look matte at all, and its just such a great colour. Do I own anything exactly like it? Probably. But this is just such a nice colour, and its Urban Decay.. Come on now.. I got this in the US from Sephora for $22USD, but us Aussies can find this on BeautyBay ( www.beautybay.com ) for $31.40AU, which isn't too bad, considering a MAC lipstick is $36AU.

Swatches (l-r) - MAC's Syrup, YSL Rouge Volupte #1, MAC's Lovelorn, Maybelline Color Whisper in Lust for Blush, Urban Decay Lipstick in Native

So there you have it! My top five favourite pink lipsticks! Like I said, pink outweighs all the colours in my collection, and I have so many more I could have written about! But these are my favourites, and the ones I reach for over the others, or in YSL's case, covet like it will be discontinued tomorrow.

What top five products would you like to see next Thursday? Let me know in the comments!

the lipstick tag

Hey guys!

Today's post will be the lipstick tag! I love tags, they are so much fun to do, and I was tagged to do this by the lovely Kirsty from Lipstick Addict! You can find her blog here, if you haven't found her already! She is also featured in my beauty blogs I love page! Definitely go check her blog out if you haven't already, its dedicated to all things lipstick and other beauty topics. And tip of the iceberg, she's also from Sydney, Australia :)

1. How many lipsticks do you own?
Oh lord.. I don't even know. I'd say at least 70-80, not including lip glosses or crayon lipsticks. Basically, more than I'll ever need!

2. What was the first lipstick you owned?
The first lipstick I ever owned myself (not stealing from my mums collection) was MAC's Lustering lipstick! It was given to me as a gift :)

3. What is your favourite lipstick brand?
Thats a toughie.. I would say MAC because they just have something for everyone, and so many different formulas.. But my favourite ever lipsticks are the YSL Rouge Volupte lipsticks, and they are on another level amazing. So, probably YSL!

4. What is your most worn lipstick?
Maybelline's Colour Whisper in Lust for Blush. I also have a back up for when it actually does run out..

5. What is your favourite finish?
Ooooh.. Probably the lustre finishes by MAC.

6. What was the last lipstick you brought?
The last lipstick I went in store to buy was Sportsgirls Love Bite. But I also ordered the Tarte Amazonian Butter lipstick in Golden Pink last week, so I guess I also brought that last as well.

7. How many lip products do you have in your bag? (Including balms and glosses)
I have an EOS lip balm, my Nivea lip balm and I honestly carry whatever lipstick I am currently wearing for the day, plus one or two back ups for if I change my mind. My make up bag usually carries only the essential products that are on my face that day, I chop and change the products all the time.

8. What is your favourite red lip colour?
The one that I last brought, Sportsgirls Love Bite! I only own that and MAC's Ruby Woo, but I love how this is a sheer, toned down berry type red.

9. How do you store you lipsticks?
Well, my favourites that I wear on a frequent basis are with my main collection on top of my drawers in a container that used to be part of a candle. Then my crayon lipsticks are in their own holder, which is a pencil holder I brought from the Reject Shop. The rest are stored in my drawers. My high end lipsticks and some MAC lipsticks are in a lipstick holder I brought from Priceline, and then the rest are sorted into two containers - one being lipstick tubes and the other glosses and liquid lipsticks :)

10. What lipsticks are you currently lusting after?
Oh wow. Um.. MAC's Russian Red and Candy Yum Yum.
All the YSL Rouge Volutpe lipsticks, but in particular #2 and #13. But really, every single YSL lippie.
Maybelline The Buffs Collection.
L'Oreal Le Lacque and Le Matte crayon lipsticks.
Revlon Matte Balm in Elusive.
So many more, too many to mention. But these are on my immediate list!

Hope you guys enjoyed this tag! Thank you so much Kirsty for tagging me! Now I tag:

Dani at Lace&LoveXO

and

Rebecca at RebeccaRuhles

Until next time...
